* * 343 HASTINGS STREET EAST - ERNIE KING'S HARLEM NOCTURNE was where DJZigZag's MENTOR CHUBBY HAYES' MOM COOKED and A LOTTA LOCAL MUSICIANS DID TOO !

ERNIE KING'S HARLEM NOCTURNE CABARET DIDN'T HAVE A LIQUOR LICENCE BUT THE JUICES FLOWED AND THE NEW WORLD AFRICAN MUSIC WAS SOWED BY ERNIE ON TROMBONE with MANY OF THE TOP YOUNG RHYTHM 'N' BLUES MUSICIANS IN THE HOUSE BAND. I REMEMBER BEING REGALED BY UNDER-AGE DRUMMER DOUG CUTHBERT'S 'NOCTURNE FABLES' AND SEEING, IN MY MIND'S-EYE, THE 'BAT' THAT TENORIST LARRY VOLEN SAID ERNIE KEPT BEHIND THE BAR ESPECIALLY FOR THE MORE UNRULY PATRONS.
