DJZigZag was just completing the 2nd in the series, EAST END WALKIN' TOUR (IS FUN) 2011
featuring his mentor S. "Chubby" Hayes
when he realized he'd have to use a different copy of BOBBY "BLUE" BLAND'S 1961 hit
"I PITY THE FOOL" (Duke 332).
The distortion was just too bad.
He went to the heralded WAGRadio library and semi-hurriedly pulled the MCA Cd compilation "BOBBY BLAND: I PITY THE FOOL / THE DUKE RECORDINGS, Vol. One" [MCAD2-10665].
But after sampling that digital Cd version he cast that mama jama aside
because, simply put,
the digital disc sounded TERRIBLE compared (even) to the distorted 45rpm (recorded on a NAKAMICHI 1000 ZXL cassette tape recorder).
By the way, as you'll hear, it's Bobby's vocal that is slightly distorted on the 7". The horns, guitar etc. sound pretty good.
It all sounds low-fi and JUST PLAIN DULL on the MCA Cd version.
