WE ARE REMEMBERING TWO OF OUR PALS
TREVOR MUIR - A GEM OF A GUY - FORMER VANCOUVER B.C. POLICE OFFICER
AND
SY "GRUMPY" RISBY
LIKE "Trev", "Grumpy" was a boyhood pal of WAGRadio's Vinyl Librarian - William "Fats Is Back" Reiter and WAGRadio DJ - Sunny "Sweet Daddy Fonk" Wong. "Grumpy" was also the lead singer in many West Coast Canadian Rhythm 'n' Blues bands - "Grumpy and The Green Men", "Grumpy And The Mischiefs", "Sy Risby, Chuck Flintroy And The Night Train",
The "B" side of the seven inch 45rpm that has sold for 'good money' on Popsike & Discogs - "Ain't Love Wonderful" [6th Avenue Rec. No. AV601] sung by Sy Risby is a pretty good record. DJZigZag remembers Grumpy bringing the acetate of the release to the CKLG-FM studio the day it was ready for airplay in March of 1968. He also remembers his pal as not being grumpy but - "a loving, kind, quiet, soft spoken man always quick to chuckle and be there to help you enjoy your life".
Like Trevor Muir, whose personality always shone from a place of humour, Sylvester "Grumpy" Risby will be thought of by friends until their own day of passing.
