WITH THE UNREST IN JAMAICA - A GOOD BACKGROUNDER IS LAURIE GUNST'S book "BORN FI DEAD: A JOURNEY THROUGH THE JAMAICAN POSSE UNDERWORLD"

We here at WAGRadio don't like to stray too far from the music.
When we do, we like to link wherever we go to our music.
This
1995 - published book relates the story of the rise to power through drug running of the "posses".
Let me quote from Ms. Gunst's introduction in the book;
"When I began working on the book a decade ago, I conceived of it as both a work of history and a traveler's tale, the story of Jamaica's political gangs and the record of my journey into their labyrinth. This story began in the ghettos of Kingston, a chessboard of war zones with human pieces: for as long as the majority of Jamaicans can remember, politicians have armed and paid Kingston's most notorious gunmen to enforce their rule in the capital city's thronged slums."

This is a fascinating book. We recommend it to all our listeners.

WE SAID WE'D ONLY SHARE ORIG. VIDEOS WITH YOU OUR WAGRadio PEEPS - - BUT THIS WAS SO GOOD . . . an old CAB CALLOWAY CLIP with BUNNY SIGLER MUSIC ! !

We don't know what the MOVIE is but the overdubbed MUSIC is BUNNY SIGLER and his re-do of an amalgam of old SHIRLEY AND LEE tunes from the 1950's - "Let The Good Times Roll" & "Feel So Good".

ZIGZAG'z READIN' UP A STORM - HERE'S HIS LATEST - FROM LEFT TO RIGHT - - JUST FINISHED - JUST STARTIN' & GETTIN' READY TO READ ! !

The one known as the Zigster can often be found down at Spanish Banks (beach) in Van-City with a good book - 'specially on a blustery day. He tells us he's just finishing "King of the Queen City: The Story of King Records" by Jon Hartley Fox, he's about to tuck into David Kirby's "Little Richard: The Birth of Rock 'n' Roll" and that he's also happy 'bout having made a real good deal on the purchase of Tommy Chong's 2006 autobiography "The I Chong" at Book Warehouse (orig. $29.95 for $9.99).
Page 110 contains this gem of dialogue:
Cheech - Hey! What was in this stuff, man? I can't feel my face.
Chong - Maui Wowie, but its got some labrador in it, man.

So, fans, we don't need to go on do we ? ?

ZigZag sez he's looking forward to the read even though its got these old comedy routines in it.
He also tells us he's real good pals with a guy who used to "hot-knife in back o' the Buddha with Chong" . . . whatever that means . . .

"I Need A Dollar" by ALOE BLACC coming on the soon t'be podcasted GROOVIN' BLUE 10 - 05 . . .

The reality of our neighbour to the south . . .and we are not only talkin' the poor ! . ! . !
This is the new reality of life for those who had jobs . And we mean - real good jobs - in factories and as nurses and accountants and semi-professionals and who supported the music we love - - and that's why you don't see any Soul singers or Jazz artists hardly playing in any urban clubs - and why you don't see any New World African Music venues opening up in Black neighbourhoods in America and the reason so many are closing down cuz there is a quickly -dwindled base of middle class citizens to support the rootz of it all.

WE HADTA SHARE THIS WITH OUR WAGRadio LISTENERS - THANKS TO MIKE CHERRY @ SKYVALLEY RADIO FOR THIS GEM . . . "98.3 THE MIX" . . .
