HEADING TOWARDS 2012 and we thinkin' 'bout ONE OF OUR NEW WORLD AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSICAL HEROES - "THE GENIUS" - Mr. RAY CHARLES in 1968 FRANCE

GROOVIN' BLUE had been on the air from the year earlier on CKLG-FM in VanCity and Bro' Ray was at the peak of his creative heights.
Going into the new year we reminisce about our musical heroes with no one, no one artist, as esteemed as Mr. RAY CHARLES.

PRESENTED FOR YOUR CULTURAL BROADENING . . . A MIXTURE OF JAMAICAN TOURIST BOARD / HOMOPHOBIC YOUTH FOO' - *click here* - & TROPIC PARADISE type video

THIS RHYTHMIC JAMROCK SOULFUL RHYTHMIC RIP-OFF OF THE U.S. SUPER GROUP THE STAPLE SINGERS' CHOON "I'LL TAKE YOU THERE", SEEMS LIKE THE TYPICAL PALM TREES, BIG-BOOB GAL and GOOD LOOKIN', LONG-WALKIN' GUY MIXED WITH A VERY PRO Come Visit Jamaica CHAMBER OF COMMERCE-Financed VIDEO until YOU GET TO WHERE THE LEAD SINGER - HEFLA NYAH - STARTS SINGING ABOUT. . .
"(You)
no bother come a-yard actin' fruity . . . (because WE) tolerate 'nuff things but that no suit we.
HEFLA NYAH also tells us,
"we no like informer so we rebuke (refute?) thee".
I IMAGINE YOU SHOULDN'T CALL THE COPS in JAMAICA IF NYAH and his POSSE IS AROUND AFTER YA GET YOUR WALLET STOLEN
and I'M TALKING TO THOSE EUROPEANS and NORTH AMERICANS WHO ARE HOMOSEXUAL.

THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS WE HERE AT WAGRadio ARE ALWAYS ON THE LOOK-OUT TO EXPOSE . . .
THAT SEEMINGLY WONDERFULLY HAPPY and JOYOUSLY LIFE-AFFIRMING JAMAICAN or CARIBBEAN PIECE OF MUSIC THAT SUDDENLY DRIFTS INTO HOMOPHOBIA.

BECAUSE WE SPEAK NORTH AMERICAN ENGLISH
and HAVE ONLY A SLIGHTLY PATOIS-EDUCATED EAR,
WE DO MISS SOME PREJUDICE.

WAGRadio HAS TOO MANY FRIENDS IN SHOW BUSINESS
WHO ARE GAY or BI-SEXUAL TO ABANDON THEM
BY TURNING A BLIND EYE TO OUR PLAYLIST.
EVEN THE MOST
FANTASTICALLY SOULFUL PIECE OF
NEW WORLD AFRICAN MUSIC,
IF IT SPEWS SEXIST or RACIAL HATE,
WON'T BE AIRED.

AND with this song it's TOO BAD CUZ it's a fairly GOOD PIECE OF MUSIC!
So....What we're gonna do is decide if we should cut out the section of homophobic lyrics
from Mr. Hefla Nyah's choon
and present it to you the WAGRadio way.
Stay tuned for GROOVIN' BLUE 11 - 11 .

*also for your edification

HISTORIC MALACO RECORDS DESTROYED IN JACKSON, MS TORNADO on APRIL, 15, 2011

King Floyd, Dorothy Moore, Johnnie Taylor, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Denise LaSalle, Stan Mosley, ZZ Hill are just some of the names who have recorded for Malaco Records.
So - fo' sho' - this is the record company that has given us some of the finest New World African Southern Soul Music in the last forty-plus years and it all (literally) came crashing down in mid-April of this year when one of the many tornadoes tore through Jackson, Mississippi.

WAGRadio presents THE JAMAICAN MENTO TRIO - B.B. KING (The Jamaican) AND THE WESTERNERS - 1992

HAVING ACCESS TO THE DJZigZag VIDEO LIBRARY HAS PROMPTED US TO START A CYCLE OF ADDING MORE ORIGINAL VIDEOS TO THIS SITE ! !
SO IN THE NEAR FUTURE YOU'LL SEE A CHANGE IN WHAT VIDEOS WILL BE APPEARING HERE . . .
MAYBE NOT SO FOLKSY AS THIS ONE.
BUT WE WILL BE GOING BACK AND ADDING VIDEO FROM THE HUGE STORE OF CLASSIC NEW WORLD AFRICAN MUSIC PERFORMANCES
(some from JAPAN courtesy Al Shimokura).

SO LET'S START WITH THIS . . .
The Grand Lido all-inclusive resort on Bloody Bay (Negril, Jamaica) had been open for six months in August of 1992 when DJZigZag and Mrs. ZigZag (she's the lady in the head-scarf listening) stayed there for ten days. It was such a great place that they convinced pals of theirs to go back a few years later. Unfortunately, by then the compact piano bar with the wonderful Jamaican Rhythm'n'Blues and Pop singer had been replaced by a karaoke machine and the beautifully soulful Mento trio of B.B. King and The Westerners no longer filled the former Aristotle Onnasis yacht with song. Still, the Grand Lido was a marvelous vacation destination but just not as much of a real Jam-Rock treat as when The Westerners and the piano bar entertainer plied their soulful trade.

LEAN TIMES CHANGE 2009 NEW WORLD AFRICAN MUSIC SCENE

It seems, in the last part of 2008 and the beginning of this year, that there have been fewer New World African Music videos produced.
Copyright laws have also counter-productively influenced the promoting of (by blogs like ours) certain new videos.
Jamaica, hit hard by the recession, has almost ceased producing any newly-mown, home-grown music promos of worth.  Add to this the already too-long trend of contemporary Jazz videos being virtually non-existant - and the phrase 'lean times' seems to be in no-way descriptive enuff.
Therefore WAGRadio fans, you may be seeing more NWAM nostalgia-clips posted (than you're used to): at least until the world gets back on its financial feet.  Our mandate is that any old film shorts or 'kines' we offer you are as close as possible to the artistic quality and high-style performance of the Flamingos 'Jump Children' (from "Go Johnny Go").
We would ask that if you view any New World African Music videos that you deem worthy of blog inclusion (especially contemporary)  - advise us -  as a   COMMENT   or e-mail

WAGRadio SEZ - THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT WE DON'T WANT OUR CHILDREN TO SEE AND HEAR . . .

And that's why we declare on our shows and now reiterate in print that
WAGRadio and GROOVIN' BLUE is programming
FOR ADULTS
ONLY
AND NOT
FOR CHILDREN.

"Ramping Shop" by VYBZ KARTEL & SPICE and LIL WAYNE's "Young Playa", featured in GROOVIN' BLUE SHOW 09-03, are examples of creative pieces of music with filthy, nasty lyrics.
LYRICS THAT THE MANAGEMENT OF WAGRadio
WOULD ONLY WANT ADULTS TO HEAR.
