** LATEST COPY OF ENGLAND'S 'BLUES & RHYTHM' MAGAZINE ARRIVES ** PERFECT TIMING CUZ DJZigZag IS RECUPERATING AT HOME . . . NOW LET'S SEE THOSE BACK COPIES TOO ! !

We here at WAGRadio have subscriptions to a few good magazines.  Each and every issue of "In The Basement", "Juke Blues", "Jazziz", "Blues & Rhythm" and "Wax Poetics" is read from cover to cover and passed around the station.  Sweet Daddy Fonk's favourite is "In The Basement" and he looks forward to seeing this wonderful  mag up and running again soon.
It seems that DJZigZag is always anticipating the latest issue of "Blues & Rhythm".  Editor Tony Burke and his co-horts - Byron Foulger, Tony Watson, Phil Wight, Mike Stephenson, Ray Templeton and Norman Dawson have always been a group of, not only, very professional journalists, but just-plain-good-guys in our dealings over the years.
Interestingly, the cover design is by local Vancouverite Bob McGrath (originally a Brit) who also publishes through Eyeball Productions, the much-heralded Soul, Blues and R&B Indies discographies.  Bob's latest gem (co-produced with Les Fancourt) is 'The Blues Discography: 1943-1970'.
DJZigZag just spent an hour with Bob McG. in West Vancouver, B.C. chatting and picking up 4 copies of this current tome for;  WAGRadio's library, Mike "EastEndKingaDaBlues" Cvetkovich, Ari "King Records" Anas and Co-Op Radio's "Blues In The Night" host and producer Ron Simmonds.
One of the great things about Blues & Rhythm magazine is the generous New World African American Music knowledge that pours forth from each new monthly issue (currently #274).
While DJZZ and WAGRadio's 'Groovin' Blue' program features Frank Ocean, Usher, Masspike Miles, R Kelly, Andre 3000, Sizzla Kolonji  etc - we are also very knowledgeable of and have lived the music in the 1950's and '60's.  The stories and history of West Coast black-musicologist Mike Cvetkovich also provides us with a look-back to the wonderful 1940's.  Not only does Blues & Rhythm fill in the details and sweep us along the New World African Music road to days long in the past they also feature the music we grew up with plus today's Soul, R'n'B and Blues scene.  What a great, great magazine.

WORLD WIDE STAR SNOOP DOGG BECOMES RASTAFARIAN - CALL HIM SNOOP LION . . . * * THIS REBIRTH IS HUGE IN THE NEW WORLD AFRICAN MUSIC WORLD ! ! ! * *

.

WE HERE AT WAGRadio SELDOM MOVE INTO A POLITICAL or RELIGIOUS MODE.
WE HERE AT WAGRadio HOLD NO POLITICAL or RELIGIOUS BELIEFS.

THAT'S NOT TO SAY WE DON'T HAVE FEELINGS OR IDEAS ABOUT RELIGION and POLITICS.
WE HAVE SPOKEN OUT RECENTLY AGAINST HOMOPHOBIC PREJUDICE IN JAMAICAN MUSIC (in fact we recently edited out homophobic lyrics in the choon "Take You There" by HEFLA NYAH).

WE HERE AT WAGRadio MAKE THIS OFFICIAL STATEMENT ABOUT Mr. CALVIN CORDOZAR BROADUS, Jr. better known as SNOOP DOGG BECOMING A  RASTAFARIAN AND ADOPTING THE AWE-INSPIRING NAME - SNOOP LION.

FOR A LONG TIME WE'VE HELD THE THEORY THAT RASTAFARIANISM WILL ONE DAY ATTAIN THE STATUS OF A MAJOR WORLD WIDE RELIGION PLAYING OUT ITS COURSE ALONGSIDE JUDAISM, CHRISTIANITY, BUDDHISM, MOSLEMISM, HINDUISM etc.

WITH GANJA (marijuana) HAVING A MAJOR ROLE IN THE SACRED RASTAFARI RITUALS AND THE LOVE OF WEED IN THE REST OF THE WORLD'S POPULATION REACHING LAW-CHANGING PROPORTIONS THIS "... LARGEST, MOST IDENTIFIABLE, INDIGENOUS MOVEMENT IN JAMAICA (as well as) the UNITED STATES, GREAT BRITAIN, CANADA and AFRICA" WILL BECOME (we predict) A MAJOR WORLD RELIGION IN SIXTY YEARS.
THE POWER OF THE NYABINGI DRUM (the root of Reggae) HAS ALSO BECOME A WORLD FORCE IN POPULAR MUSIC.  REGGAE ARTISTS' TOUR ITINERARIES OFTEN INCLUDE ASIA, EUROPE, AFRICA, SOUTH AMERICA IN A THREE MONTH TOUR.  A TOP JAMROCK ARTIST CAN PLAY CAPETOWN ONE NIGHT AND BERLIN AND BOSTON THE NEXT TWO NIGHTS.

WITH THE PHENOMENALLY SUCCESSFUL ARTIST SNOOP DOGG ANNOUNCING THAT HE IS NOW A FOLLOWER OF THE BLACK MESSIAH, HAILE SELASSIE, FORMER EMPEROR OF ETHIOPIA, THE STAGE IS SET FOR OTHER NEW WORLD AFRICAN MUSICIANS, POLITICIANS and PERSONALITIES TO JOIN THE MESSIANIC MOVEMENT (its been around since the 1930's).

ALL OF US HERE AT WAGRadio WILL HAVE LONG-LEFT THIS MORTAL COIL (more than likely) WHEN  OUR PREDICTION COMES TO FRUITION.  OUR REAL HOPE IS THAT THE GENTLENESS OF THIS RELIGION SUPPLANTS ITS MISTRUST OF OTHER RACES AND ITS CULTURAL  HOMOPHOBIA BY THE TIME THIS WORLD FORCE COMES TO POWER.

WAGRadio's STUDIO "B" WAKES TO THE TIDAL MEANDERINGS of the MIGHTY FRASER RIVER SLOWLY SLIDING BY and BRINGING PROMISE OF AN ALL NEW GROOVIN' BLUE 12 - 10

Recently, at its most tumultuous, the Fraser River cutting around the bend in front of WAGRadio studios has pushed 11,500 to 13,000 cubic metres of itself out to the Pacific Ocean.  And that's per second!
The constantly changing waterway - one of the world's great rivers - is a creative inspiration to and enhances the New World African Music sound of WAGRadio's Groovin' Blue format.
